Are you looking for a super cool V8 convertible that's ready for cruising?  How about one with some of the best modern styling ever draped over two doors and four tires? If the answer is a resounding yes, this 1964 Thunderbird is exactly the car you've been looking for! This retains a real deal 390ci/300hp V8, completely sorted mechanicals, and a retro, spaceship cockpit inspired interior. This is the perfect weekend cruiser and car show queen for anyone who enjoys getting a little fresh air out on the open road.

What you're looking at here is a true and original Thunderbird Sports Roadster. Actually, it's 1 of only 50 that were ever built in 1964, and according to the registry there is only 31 of these original Thunderbird Sports Roadsters left making this car a true collectible.

Unique among the unique, this convertible shows it has a top only when its necessary. The rest of the time the top remains concealed beneath a clean and long sweeping deck. Solid and straight, this T-bird's jet-inspired body reflects picturesque crisp side body panels. It was born Ford Code P - Prairie Bronze, but was restored and painted Vintage Burgundy code X (which converted into today's paint code is a AY2 Flare Red Effect) paint which exudes a rich and classy demeanor. From its excellent shine to its smooth rocker panels, the car's deep, glossy finish is as nice as many of our much more expensive offerings, and certainly nicer than when the car rolled out of a Ford showroom 51 years ago. The Burgundy is legendary for its upscale appearance, and when paired with this Thunderbird's streamlined burgundy interior it creates the perfect visual culmination of speed and sophistication. Naturally, a design like this requires top-notch panel fit and it appears the people who put this car together took a lot of time making sure every inch of the bullet-like body maintained the excellent cohesion of the original design. In short, the body and paint on this car are stunning, and it's an incredible tribute to one of the coolest designs to ever come out of Dearborn, Michigan. When it's hot outside and you want the top down, its quick and easy with a flip of a switch…. Thunderbird does the rest. Just watching this top operate is a true work of engineering art all in itself and puts some Transformers to shame.

Looking more like a high priced luxury car than a working man's Ford, the fourth generation Thunderbird combined sleek styling with bright, detailed accents to create a very popular gentleman's express. At the front of the car, four 'bullet style' headlights split a canted chrome bumper, which integrates a thin lined aluminum grille from a clean crisp front hood. The hood wears an upsized traditional Thunderbird raised scoop at the edge of that hood, a good looking Thunderbird emblem name spreads across the front, and at the back of that hood, like-new glass is bordered by more well-maintained stainless trim. Behind that windshield a like new white convertible top gives way to a super-rare sports roadster option which turns this high class four-seater into a dramatic two-seater in a snap. At the back of the car, a familiar thin Thunderbird rear valence is comprised of a contoured trunk lid and a second show worthy chrome bumper. At its corners, intricately detailed rectangle style tail lights provide a beautiful full array of lighting at the rear of the car; and at the center of the rear bumper, a second great looking T-bird script emblem floats just above an indention for the car's tag.

Lift this cars long burgundy hood and you'll find a hot 390ci/300 horse power V8 which provides way more scoot than any tired, old, run-of-the-mill 289 ever could. This high horsepower 390 engine is complete with a four-barrel carb. Firing instantly and purring to life with ease, it's a torque-happy roadster which pushes this relatively lightweight body down the road with authority. Aesthetically, the engine bay is exceptionally clean for a car that's seen regular use and features appropriate dress up items like correct gold mist colored valve covers and a factory air cleaner alongside well placed stock accents. More observant readers will notice some thoughtful and correct upgrades which include a seven blade fan, an Exide Stay Full battery and a cool Ford washer fluid bag. Clearly this T-bird was built to cruise. It's a reliable, fully sorted muscle car that'll have you ripe with anticipation for the warm and sunny days of summer and fall.

At the bottom of this incredibly solid car, rust free floor pans combine with a straight and sturdy frame to provide an excellent foundation for years of top down fun. There's no rot or serious issues that detract from the cars value; and by the looks of the pans and fender wells, this T-bird has never been seriously damaged in any way. Under the engine, a reliable coil spring suspension holds factory optioned power steering between correct power drum brakes. At the back of the car, sturdy looking leaf springs are flanked by two more correct self adjusting power drum brakes and what appears to be the cars original rear end. Behind the big 390 engine, an original C6 Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and puts the power to the ground with ease. At the sides of that transmission, a new aluminized mandrel bent dual exhaust system sends spent gas from correct cast iron manifolds to an H-pipe crossover and great upgraded sounding factory replacement mufflers. At the corners of the car, correct Kelsey Hayes designed 48 spoke wire wheels, (which were included with the sports roadster option) wear correct front spinners and fresh P215/75 R15 Goodyear Integrity white wall tires.

Inside the car, a stunning streamlined Ford Burgundy interior combines excellent looking stainless trim with plush seats and a like-new dash. Ingress and egress is made easier by the first ever application of a tilt away steering column which holds a classic ornate wheel on top of a chrome column shifter. Luxuries such as power windows, remote mirrors, power steering, power brakes, power seats, and power convertible top controls are sprinkled throughout the interior, and Ford's Selectaire air conditioning system turns hot days into cool rides. Below the seats, fresh looking carpet holds by stainless door sill plates, below a substantial locking console and black foot pedals. At the sides of the seats, sculpted door panels prop long arm rests under great looking stainless trim. In front of the driver, a dramatic cowl style dash houses a correct Thunderbird radio and awesome looking '3D' gauges that were inspired by the space program are some of the coolest I've ever seen. In fact, this car's jet fighter cockpit is just plain cool to look at period. It's definitely one of the many highlights of a great design. Also not seen here, hidden in the center console, is a Custom Autosound secret audio system with hand-held remote.

Documentation included with this sale is an original Ford dealer car brochure with its cover folder, the cars original owner's manual, RF Transmitter for the hidden sound system, a Thunderbird illustrated facts and features manual and information pertaining to the cars status on the national Thunderbird registry.
